New Group Meets in Arakaka as a Result
of a 'Soon to be Implemented' Mission Project
Shortly after Pastors Andrew Farrel and Richard James trained and equipped church members in the North West region of Guyana, the brethren launched out into the deep of the forests to tell the unsaved of the Saviour’s love. On April 18, Pastor Andre Williams, a husband and wife team - Darren and Melissa Wilson, and ten other members of the Matthew's Ridge Adventist Church went into the unentered settlement of Arakaka. Theirs was an early effort at implementing the Amerindian Mission Project that was slated for official launching later in August of 2009.
Arakaka comprises approximately nine hundred people. Funnily enough, while none of them attended church, a well constructed church building stood in the midst of the settlement. It had been built years before by “Johnny P”, a well known businessman, with the intention of providing a place of worship for any group of persons who desired to worship. The visiting Adventist group sought the necessary permission to use the building and this was granted.
They then went out to homes sharing religious tracts and Priority Magazines, and inviting villagers to attend a church service later in the day. Over 80 persons Attended! The people were hungry for the Word of God and requested that service be held at the church every Sabbath. Services are now held there every Sabbath, as well as on Friday, Sunday and Wednesday Evenings.
